Amazon River Pink Dolphins

While on board the ship, we read about The Amazon River pink dolphins and we were intrigued. One of the tours stated that you could see them sometimes when they are playing in the water. Upon our arrival to Boca Da Valeria, our captain said they were jumping in and out of the water as we arrived. We scanned the horizon all the time looking for them. It wasn't until we were headed back to the ship via tender that we finally saw them.

While we were tendering back, they were slightly jumping in and out of the water and everyone was in awe. One came right up to the tender and I saw it's entire head and half of it's body, it was so close! What an amazing sight it was, they were so...so...so pink, and with little splotches of grey. My camera could not capture them, they were just too fast. Once we got on board the ship, we went out to deck 5 and joined everyone else trying to capture them on camera. It was quite difficult and I took so many photos, but alas, I was able to capture one as you can see in the photo below.

The pink river dolphin. Amazingly I was able to capture a small portion of one of the pink river dolphins of The Amazon River. Pink dolphins are not the same dolphins that you would see in the ocean; they have special adaptations to their habitat. River dolphins are only distantly related to sea dolphins. The Amazon River pink dolphins conform the largest population of river dolphins in existence as the other four species are extinct or close to extinction.
